Honeycomb Stairs BIM X file

I've uploaded the Honeycomb Stairs as a BIM X file and have been playing around with them learning how to navigate. It seems quite similar to navigating in Second life as we did last semester for ARCHDRC 102, you can fly, jump etc. I think it's really cool that ArchiCAD allows you to export your models in this way, it really allows us to experience our design!

Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn!

Just some quick, basic research on hotels I whipped up for design tomorrow. I'll be updating this with more research later. This page just includes two articles from the journals I was looking at for media last semester as well as some basic info on different types of hotels and some imagery... because pictures are so pwetty.  I found some really cool hotels too, like they're going to build a hotel in Dubai that's mostly underwater. I think I would personally be too scared to stay there though...

Oh yes- and on another, unrelated note, I love how blogger gives me stats about how many views my individual posts are getting etc. I always liked this about websites such as deviantART, but blogger is even more thorough. I especially like how it tells me what country my viewers are from. (I'm amazed people are actually interested in the work of an ickle first year..!) I'm not surprised to say that most of my viewers are from New Zealand, since that's where I'm at and they probably heard about it from me. I had one page view from Germany (that was probably my stalking mother, haha!) but actually I get my second most page views from the US! I'm pretty surprised about this! Also, my post with the most views so far is the one with my Sustainable Retrofit Essay. This I also find quite surprising, haha!
On this note, please check out the poll I have now included to the left of this post... just because I find the way the internet works incredibly interesting and because I have a huge ego.

Anyway, time for me to go to beddy-byes. 8am lecture tomorrow!

Starting ArchiCAD

We actually started using ArchiCAD last semester for ARCHDRC 102 (you can see the treehouses myself and my team mates created at my media blog here: ARCHDRC 102) but we were told that we would be using it in more depth this semester.

I actually don't have design until tomorrow morning, but it's always best to start learning software as early as possible (if you want to download your free version under an education licence you can do so here at the official graphisoft website: Free ArchiCAD education licence) so I downloaded it and played around with it in the semester break. At first (as far as I recall) you get a 1 month licence but you can apply for a 1 year one and extend it each subsequent year while you're studying (whether at high school or university, it doesn't really matter so long as you're a student). I'm doing some more major practice tonight mainly because my memory is awful so I'd like to make sure that the things I learnt are still fresh in my mind. There are lots of tutorials all over the place including on the graphisoft website, but I have mainly been looking at a series of YouTube videos starting with this one: Basic Training Lesson 1.

Anyway, I'm back to it now. The first day of semester has been good so far by the way. My ARCHHTC 102 class seems like it's going to be very interesting even if it is rather annoying timetable wise- 8am starts 3 times a week. That's fine really for me since I live close to uni, but for the students living in places like North Shore it must be dreadful. I'm quite fond of history though and if it's related to architecture then even better! Basically, I'm really looking forward to this next semester!

Welcome!

Hey there! Last semester we made a blog to keep a record of our media work, so I decided to carry on this idea- but this time incorporating work from all my papers. Therefore I'll always have a digital record of my work, even if some disaster occurred with my hard drive or external hard drive...
Anyway, I will probably start posting some of my design work from semester 1, although the real bulk of this blog's content will come from semester 2 (of my first year of architecture, by the way) and beyond. If you wish to see my semester 1 media work you can find it here: ARCHDRC 102
That is all for now, I hope you are all having a nice day/ night, whatever. Bye!
